MONTRÉAL, CANADA - JUNE 16, 2025: In a thrilling finish marred by chaos in the final laps, George Russell of Mercedes claimed his team's first victory of the season at the Canadian Grand Prix on Sunday, as McLaren's title contenders clashed in an intense and eventful race.

Russell narrowly edged out Red Bull's Max Verstappen by 0.228 seconds under the safety car to secure his fourth career win. His teammate Kimi Antonelli finished third, showing impressive composure under late pressure.

Mercedes' victory marked a crucial turnaround for Russell after consecutive droughts following their last win in Las Vegas and their previous home race at Silverstone. "It's amazing to be back on the top step," he expressed joyfully, praising his teammate Kimi Antonelli for being on the podium as well.

In contrast, McLaren duo Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri had a calamitous final stint that brought them third and fourth, respectively. Despite this frustrating end, Oscar extended his lead in the drivers' standings to 22 points ahead of Norris.

In the chaotic finale, Charles Leclerc secured fifth place for Ferrari after he collided with Lewis Hamilton, marking an embarrassing start with understeer. Nico Hulkenberg from Sauber garnered sixth as Fernando Alonso brought home eighth with a stellar Aston Martin finish.

Notable performances were given by  'Teen Rocket' Oscar Piastri as he set up a promising future, landing the third-youngest podium achievement in F1 history at age 18, showing incredible poise against racing stress amidst immense pressure. Similarly, his teammate Norris's late mishap left McLaren vulnerable to Ferrari and Mercedes surges.

The win marked Russia GP champion, Russell's fourth triumph for Mercedes and gave optimism that their underperforming season is coming together.
