GCMMF Unveils Rs 600 Crore Investment Plan For State-of-the-Art Dairy Plant in Kolkata

KOLKATA, WEST BENGAL - Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd (GCMMF) has announced a significant investment of Rs 600 crore to establish a cutting-edge integrated dairy plant in Kolkata, West Bengal. The new facility will be the world's largest curd manufacturing unit with a production capacity of 10 lakh kilograms per day, catering to the growing demand for quality products in the eastern region.

The announcement was made during the recently concluded Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) by GCMMF's Managing Director, Jayen Mehta. The plant will be set up in two phases and will feature a milk processing capacity of 15 lakh litres per day, enhancing Amul's foothold in the region and supporting the White Revolution 2.0 initiative by the Ministry of Cooperation, Government of India.

With this significant investment, GCMMF aims to boost dairy production in Bengal, which is experiencing a surge in demand for curd - known locally as tok doi (plain yoghurt) and mishti doi (sweet yoghurt). Amul, the iconic brand of GCMMF, already dominates the market with daily sales of over 10 lakh litres of milk.

The new facility will not only meet increasing local consumption but also expand Amul's presence in Bengal. The company has built a strong milk procurement network in 14 districts of West Bengal, involving over 1.2 lakh women milk producers. This expansion will further cement GCMMF's position as a leading dairy cooperative in the region.

GCMMF reported an 8 per cent increase in turnover for the financial year 2023-24 and expects double-digit growth this fiscal. The company has also expanded its presence globally, exporting dairy products to over 50 countries, including recent entry into the US market.

With this investment, GCMMF continues to strengthen the dairy cooperative movement, bringing global expertise to the domestic market. The new plant is set to become a game-changer in the Indian dairy industry, and with it, GCMMF reaffirms its commitment to promoting sustainable agriculture practices and contributing to India's White Revolution 2.0 initiative.
