Former Solar Panel Installer Sues Sunrun for False Arrest Claiming Unfair Employment Charges
A Connecticut court case has taken a surprising turn as three attorneys from McCarter & English have been named as defendants in a pending civil rights lawsuit against solar panel installation services company, Sunrun. The complaint was filed on September 4 by lawyer Robert M. Berke, representing former employee George Edward Steins.
According to the allegations, Steins was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson in 2023. However, it is claimed that a timely notification from Sunrun to the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection about the end of Steins' employment in 2017 would have resulted in the charges being dismissed.
The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer (Case No. 3:24-cv-01423), revolves around Steins v. Sunrun, Inc., et al. The court has yet to disclose whether Sunrun will respond to the allegations or proceed with the lawsuit.
In a statement, Berke's office stated that they believe the charges against Steins were unwarranted and based on unjust claims by Sunrun. A spokesperson for Sunrun stated that they take all legal matters seriously but declined to comment further due to ongoing litigation.
As the case progresses, it remains unclear whether Sunrun will ultimately be held responsible for the actions of its former employee.
