First-Year Students in State Colleges to Rejoice as Arts and Science Classes Resume on June 30

Chennai: The waiting period for first-year students in the state's educational institutions is set to end with the announcement that arts and science classes will open on June 30, following a successful counselling process.
The counselling exercise, which was conducted from June 2-14 for different categories of applicants including differently abled, sports persons, wards of ex-service personnel, Tamil students residing in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and National Cadets Corps (NCC) members, came to an end on Saturday with all category-wise admissions finalized.
With the counselling process now complete, state higher education officials have confirmed that classes for first-year students will resume on June 30. The official explained that the registration process made available online this year has enabled hassle-free access for candidates and is also available for smartphones.
The extension of the registration deadline from May 27 to May 30 received a large number of requests, particularly from parents and candidates. Despite this, registrations exceeded expectations with over 2 lakh applications received before the deadline.
Each category had its separate schedule, starting with differential counselling on June 4 for general category students after special category students began counselling three days earlier (June 2). With admissions now finalized, state officials will be verifying acknowledgement from students to finalize the final roster.
For those waiting anxiously outside campus gates and home screens of the candidate's mobile phone, this marks a long-awaited respite after weeks spent facing uncertain prospects.
