Finland Joins NASA's Artemis Accords, Becomes 53rd Nation to Pledge Cooperation

Espoo, Finland - January 21, 2025 - Finland has joined the growing list of nations to sign up for the Artemis Accords, a set of international guidelines for peaceful and cooperative space exploration.

At a ceremony held on the sidelines of the Winter Satellite Workshop 2025 in Espoo, Finland formally signed the Accord, marking its commitment to the safe and responsible exploration of space that benefits humanity. This signing makes Finland the latest country to join the 52 nations already part of the Artemis Accords community.

The Finnish Minister of Economic Affairs, Wille Rydman, expressed his eagerness to strengthen Finland's partnership with the United States and other allies as he welcomed the opportunity for cooperation in space exploration. "We aim to leverage this collaboration to open up opportunities for the Finnish space sector in the new era of space exploration," he stated.

According to NASA, Finland's participation is a significant step forward in promoting international cooperation on space research and development. The Artemis Accords were founded in October 2020 and have since attracted a diverse group of nations committed to sharing scientific data freely, operating safely, and preserving the space environment for future generations.

"The signing of the Artemis Accords by Finland strengthens our network of like-minded nations dedicated to advancing human knowledge of the universe while promoting responsible conduct," said Jim Free, NASA's Associate Administrator. "Today marks a new chapter in Finnish-American cooperation as we explore and utilize space resources in support of global priorities."

The expansion of the Artemis Accords now includes 53 member countries with Finland and its neighbors set to play an increasingly significant role in shaping this critical component to NASA's lunar exploration goals under the Artemis program.
