FIDE Hosts Third Edition of World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championship for Teams

The Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE) has kick-started the third edition of its highly anticipated World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championship, where teams from over 55 countries will battle it out in a quest to claim the coveted title. The tournament features some of the best chess players in the world, including six super grandmasters on the WR team sponsored by Wadim Rosenstein.

The first three days of the rapid chess component, starting June 11, will see teams play against each other over 12 rounds using the Swiss system, while the following two days will feature the blitz championship with a preliminary round in groups and a knockout final round.

A unique aspect of this year's tournament is the requirement for one female player per team and one player without an FIDE rating. The WR team sponsored by Wadim Rosenstein stands as the favourite to win the rapid chess title, but teams from around the world are confident that they can challenge them.

According to FIDE regulations, the championship will consist of pools followed by a knockout phase. Each pool is scheduled for April 14-15, where top four teams from each group will qualify for Phase 2, which takes place on June 15. The final stage of the blitz championship features individual match-ups, culminating in the thrilling winner-takes-all Final.
