FICUS and FIVB to Solidify Volleyball Collaboration for Four Years

A historic agreement between the International University Sports Federation (FISU) and International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has been signed today, extending their long-standing collaboration to promote volleyball in universities worldwide.

The FISU-FIVB Volleyball Collaboration Convention, coming into effect on January 1, 2025, for a period of four years, seeks to strengthen the knowledge and practice of volleyball among university athletes. It promises to bring new opportunities for student-athletes through training, competitions, and talent development initiatives.

FISU's association with volleyball dates back to 1959 when beach volleyball became an integral part of the FISU World University Games Summer programme. The newly signed convention emphasizes a shared dedication to growing and developing both indoor and beach volleyball.

The official signing ceremony took place at the FIVB headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, where FIVB President Fabio Azevedo and FISU President Leonz Eder confirmed their commitment to this partnership.

"We are thrilled to be extending our collaboration with FISU," said Azevedo. "Having had such a successful beach volleyball partnership for several years, it seemed only natural to partner through volleyball too. Student athletes are a key part of the Global Volleyball Movement, and we are excited to create even more opportunities for them to be part of our sport!"

FISU President Leonz Eder echoed Azevedo's sentiments, stating: "Our beach volleyball partnership with the FIVB has been extremely valued, and we are proud and honoured to be collaborating once again. Providing opportunities for student athletes is at the very heart of what FISU does, and we are looking forward to enhancing this through volleyball, both on and off the court."

This landmark agreement underscores the value placed on collaboration between international governing bodies in promoting university sports. The signing marks a significant milestone in the pursuit of excellence in beach and indoor volleyball for student athletes worldwide.
