Farmers Pledge to Adopt Sustainable Agriculture Practices

Ludhiana - The farmers of a region in Punjab have taken an oath to adopt sustainable and modern agricultural practices aimed at enhancing productivity, conserving natural resources, and promoting ecological balance.

The pledge was made during the concluding session of an awareness camp held by experts from Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, at Kalsian Cooperative Society. The event saw participation from senior functionaries of Centres for International Projects Trust (CIPT) and Agricultural Technology and Management Agency (ATMA).

Experts highlighted the importance of implementing technical knowledge and research in modern agriculture, with a focus on preserving natural resources such as soil and underground water. The session also saw appreciation from speakers, including Malwinder Singh Malhi, Sarabjit Singh, and Amandeep Singh, for the cooperation of farmers in adopting innovative techniques and upgrading their economic status.

"Cooperative movement in Punjab has gone a long way in persuading traditional farmers to make optimum use of agricultural innovations," said Dr. Malhi. "We need to digitise farming practices, monitor pesticide usage effectively, and adopt safer methods to protect our crops from diseases such as potato crop diseases."

During the interactive session, several key issues were discussed, including strategies for protecting against late blight in potatoes and yellow rust. The experts also addressed nutrient imbalances and ways of maintaining soil fertility.

The awareness camp aimed at promoting eco-friendly practices among farmers and addressing concerns related to agricultural productivity and ecological balance. With this initiative, the farm community is committed to adopt sustainable farming methods that will not only boost their income but also safeguard the environment for future generations.
