Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Stresses on Transformation to Achieve Developed Nation by 2047

New Delhi: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan emphasized that education remains the key to achieving India's dream of becoming a developed nation by 2047, and has urged states to take necessary steps in implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 as part of their efforts.

Speaking at the National Workshop on Higher and Technical Education in New Delhi today, Mr. Pradhan highlighted the need for improvement in five critical areas of the education sector: infrastructure, leadership, curriculum, multidisciplinary research, and vibrant campus life. He suggested making the curriculum more specialized to address the specific needs of each state.

Addressing the gathering of secretaries of states and union territories, the minister also acknowledged that subjects such as sports, debate, poetry, drama, and gaming were previously considered only as extracurricular activities but are now set to become professional courses under the NEP.

Mr. Pradhan stressed on the importance of education in the mother tongue and noted transformative educational reforms such as the National Credit System and entrance-based admission through Anusandhan National Research Foundation. He appealed for cooperation from state administrations in implementing these measures.

Mentioning that the National Education Policy 2020 is not just a policy, but a roadmap to make India a global knowledge superpower, Minister of State for Education Sukanta Majumdar stated that it serves as an essential framework to implement on a national scale.

The primary objective of the two-day workshop was to discuss various approaches and methodologies necessary to make NEP 2020 a success and take collective steps towards achieving India's goal.
