Drexel University Researchers Take Lead at Prestigious ACM GROUP Conference

Philadelphia, PA - Several faculty and students from Drexel's College of Computing & Informatics (CCI) made significant contributions to the recent ACM GROUP Conference on Supporting Group Work (GROUP 2025), held in Hilton Head, South Carolina.

Holding its first edition in Philadelphia in 1982, the conference is a premier venue for research in sociotechnical studies, practice-centered computing, computer-supported cooperative work, human-computer interaction, computer-supported collaborative learning, open-source software, and related areas.

At this year's conference, CCI information science faculty and students showcased their research and expertise through various presentations. Notable contributions include:

  • "Psychological Ownership in Teleinstructive Augmented Reality" by Helena M. Mentis, Jwawon Seo, and Ignacio Avellino, which explores the psychological implications of teleinstructive augmented reality.
  • "Addressing Teamwork Delays during Life-Saving Interventions through an Activity Theory-Informed Analysis" by Katherine Ann Zellner, Aleksandra Sarcevic, PhD, Maja Barnouw, Megan A. Krentsa, Travis M. Sullivan, Mary Suhyun Kim, Randall Burd, which examines ways to improve teamwork in high-pressure situations.

Additionally, faculty members participated in panel discussions and served in key roles such as:

  • A panel discussion on "New Opportunities, Risks, and Harm of Generative AI for Fostering Safe Online Communities," featuring Afsaneh Razi, PhD.
  • Serving as a co-chair of the conference's Workshops, which was led by Aleksandra Sarcevic, PhD.

Other notable contributors include Jessica Medina, a first-year IS PhD student, who attended the conference and has also served on the program committee.
