Djokovic Set for Record-Breaking Bid at French Open

Mumbai, May 27, 2025: Novak Djokovic will begin his quest for a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam title at the French Open on Tuesday, with the 38-year-old Serbian tennis star appearing confident ahead of the tournament.

Djokovic has already achieved an impressive milestone by becoming the third man to win 100 ATP titles after his victory in Geneva just three days ago. The world number three expressed faith in his abilities, stating that he was not in need of a coach and was feeling more confident with every passing match.

The 2011 champion is set to face US opponent Mackenzie McDonald in his opening match, a significant test for the American. Djokovic will also have to contend with world number one Jannik Sinner and last year's runner-up Alexander Zverev in the draw.

World number three Zverev has had a mixed start to the season despite being seeded sixth at Roland Garros. His preparation was disrupted when his plane carrying other tennis players crashed in an emergency landing due to lightning strikes. The fifth seed's chances now rely on overcoming a tough opener against Learner Tien from the US.

Fifth-seeded Jack Draper, who was successful at Indian Wells and reached the Madrid final, will be facing off against the Italian Mattia Bellucci. Meanwhile, 11th seed Daniil Medvedev faces Cameron Norrie in his first-round match.

In the women's draw, American teenager Coco Gauff is looking to retain her title after dominating her opponents this season, including a victory at Wimbledon last month.

Gauff will be up against Australia's Olivia Gadecki in her opening match, while rising Russian star Mirra Andreeva makes her Grand Slam bow. The 21-year-old Russian has enjoyed success on the WTA Tour with wins in Dubai and Indian Wells, but has never had the experience of competing at the level that she will face at Roland Garros.

As Djokovic returns to Paris for his first appearance since winning Olympic gold last August, one would be keenly watching if he can secure his place among tennis history books.
