Diljit Dosanjh Challenges Authorities with Nationwide Liquor Ban

Ahmedabad, Gujarat: Renowned singer, actor and Punjab's very own "Mr. Pakistan", Diljit Dosanjh, recently sparked a national debate when he issued a challenge to the authorities on promoting liquor in music during his recent concert in Ahmedabad.

The issue came up after the Telangana government earlier asked him not to promote alcohol or drugs in his songs, citing the state's policy to curb promotional activities of harmful substances. However, Dosanjh didn't hold back ā€“ he challenged the authorities by saying that if they wanted him to stop singing songs about liquor, they should start a nationwide liquor ban.

Dosanjh's challenge came after the singer announced that he won't sing any song about alcohol in his upcoming concert in Hyderabad, citing Gujarat's prohibition laws. The singer then cleverly turned tables on the authorities by saying that if all states declare themselves dry states, he will stop singing songs about alcohol.

The singer suggested a movement to ban liquor across the country, calling upon local governments to declare a dry day in whichever place he performs. He further emphasized that as an artist, it's his duty to engage in bigger cultural conversations and encourage social change.

Dosanjh's comments come amidst growing concern over glamorization of alcohol in pop culture, particularly in Bollywood and the music industry. Despite the Telangana and Gujarat governments asking artists to refrain from singing about liquor, they haven't taken action against widespread presence of alcohol advertisements in mainstream media.

"It can be tweaked easily," Dosanjh said, addressing the idea that his music might influence young people more than others with a wider fanbase. "I'm not new artist, I know how to handle things."

Dosanjh also pointed out that Bollywood has thousands of songs about liquor but he only has a few. He stated that despite this limited repertoire of alcohol-related songs, his music is often singled out while similar content in mainstream Bollywood cinema goes unchecked.

Diljit Dosanjh made it clear that unlike his Bollywood counterparts, he does not endorse alcohol in real life and won't promote it through his songs. "I don't drink alcohol and I won't promote it in my songs," he said.

The singer's comments have sparked a wider conversation about the role of artists in shaping society and the complexities surrounding alcohol regulation policies. His willingness to challenge and inspire change has left the audience with mixed reactions, but one thing is clear ā€“ Diljit Dosanjh will not back down from a fight.

Dil-Luminati India Tour continues as audiences await more of this bold side of Diljit ā€“ an artist who's not just here to perform, but to challenge, question and inspire change.
