Ludhiana Battles Malaria: 23 Cases Reported This Year
LUDHIANA - With malaria cases in Ludhiana this year almost equalling the total from last year, the city's health department has ramped up its response to vector-borne diseases. Out of the 23 cases reported, 17 are from urban areas, primarily within Ludhiana city, while six are from rural blocks like Payal and Sahnewal.
District Epidemiologist Dr. Sheetal Narang highlighted that many of these cases are linked to travel history within the past month. The health department has been proactive with larval surveillance, neighborhood fumigations, and public awareness campaigns.
Health officials are closely monitoring areas like Chawni Mohalla, Model Town, and Shastri Nagar, where cases have emerged, especially as the region moves towards winter when mosquito populations typically decline.
Dr. Narang has called on residents to continue protecting themselves from mosquito bites, while the Punjab IMA president, Dr. Sunil Katyal, has advised the public on preventive measures including the elimination of standing water, use of mosquito nets, and wearing protective clothing. The health department continues to advocate for community awareness and preventive measures to curb the spread of malaria as winter approaches.
