Demand for Cancellation of Online Training, Special Classes for Students of PU Science Stream
Bangalore: The Karnataka State Pre-University College Lecturers' Association has urged the government to cancel online training provided for entrance exams and introduce special classes for students of the PU Science stream due to time constraints.
For the academic year 2024-25, an online training program was introduced to cater to science students. However, with only 120 hours allocated annually for teaching the syllabus, many students, particularly those not selected for the online sessions, are missing out on practical instruction.
The association's president, AH Ningegowda, demanded that afternoon online classes be cancelled and special classes conducted instead to allow completion of the syllabus and provide practical training.
Only 24 hours per week are available for teaching science subjects, which is proving inadequate. Rural students face additional challenges due to early returns home after lunchtime online sessions. Many parents have written to college principals requesting that these sessions be discontinued.
Meanwhile, the demand for dedicated mathematics laboratories at PU level has gained momentum, particularly ahead of National Mathematics Day on December 22:
- Lecturers emphasize engaging mathematics with students from an early age to ensure it remains accessible.
- The Karnataka State PU Mathematics Forum is working to improve results by enhancing math education quality using dedicated labs.
- Kerala and Maharashtra already have such facilities, prompting the request for similar implementation in Karnataka.
- Despite progress, more efforts are being made to further enhance outcomes.
