Delhi's Toxic Smog Returns, Air Quality Remains 'Very Poor'
New Delhi, November 24 - The national capital dealt with a thick layer of toxic smog on Sunday as the air quality index (AQI) remained in the 'very poor' category for the third consecutive week post-Diwali. According to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, Delhi's AQI clocked at 362, while other areas measured 317, 403, and 349.
Resident cyclists reported breathing difficulties due to the hazardous air quality, with one commuter stating that pollution has taken a toll on their daily life activities. Others advised taking precautions by staying indoors, avoiding stubble burning, and wearing masks to mitigate health issues caused by severe smog.
The situation is exacerbated, with schools closed, travel disrupted, and residents suffering from fever due to the hazardous air quality. A tourist visiting the Taj Mahal said that despite going in search of the monument, visibility was barely possible due to pollution and fog.

Earlier this week, the Supreme Court directed the Delhi government and Police to set up checkpoints at all 113 entry points to monitor truck entries and curb air pollution. The order comes as measures under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) were implemented to tackle rising pollution levels.
