New Delhi, November 5 - Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Vinai Kumar Saxena, emphasized the crucial role of sports in instilling discipline and fostering success during his address at the inauguration of the 73rd All India Police Athletic Cluster Championship at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Sunday. The event, set to conclude on November 14, aims to promote athletic excellence among police personnel.
Saxena, reflecting on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's words to the Indian Olympians after the Paris Olympics, noted, "Sports are a field where no one truly loses; every athlete learns something valuable." He underscored that sports are not just about competition but about learning and personal growth.
The championship was marked by a grand opening ceremony attended by senior officials from Delhi Police, including Commissioner Sanjay Arora, who welcomed Saxena. The event was further dignified by the presence of former Indian cricket star Virender Sehwag and renowned hockey player Rani Rampal as Guests of Honour.
The LG took a salute from the marching contingents, adding a ceremonial flair to the commencement. The championship will see 1,123 participants from 39 teams, representing 25 states, four Union Territories, and various Central Armed Police Forces, competing in 45 athletic events at JLN Stadium. Additionally, there are seven cycling events scheduled at Rohini, Delhi.
This championship not only showcases the physical prowess of the police personnel but also serves as a platform to enhance camaraderie and competitive spirit among the forces from across the nation.
