New Delhi, November 5, 2023 - Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Vinai Kumar Saxena, underscored the vital role of sports in personal development at the opening ceremony of the 73rd All India Police Athletic Cluster Championship held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Sunday. The LG highlighted that sports instill discipline, a critical attribute for success, echoing sentiments expressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Indian athletes post their Paris Olympics victory, stating, "Sports are a field where no one loses; every player always learns something new."
The championship, which will continue until November 14, saw the presence of senior Delhi Police officials, including Commissioner Sanjay Arora, who welcomed the LG. Notable guests included former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag and celebrated hockey player Rani Rampal, adding prestige to the event.
The ceremony commenced with Saxena taking a salute from the marching contingents, marking the official start of a competition that will see 1,123 police personnel from 39 teams, representing 25 states, four Union Territories, and the Central Armed Police Forces, competing in 45 athletic events. Additionally, the championship will feature seven cycling events at Rohini, Delhi, broadening the scope of the athletic meet.
This event not only showcases athletic prowess but also fosters a spirit of camaraderie and learning among law enforcement officers from across India.
