Delhi LG Highlights Importance of Sports at 73rd All India Police Athletic Championship

New Delhi, November 5 - Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Vinai Kumar Saxena, inaugurated the 73rd All India Police Athletic Cluster Championship at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Sunday, emphasizing the role of sports in fostering discipline, which he described as crucial for success.

Drawing inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address to Indian athletes post the Paris Olympics, Saxena highlighted that in sports, every participant gains valuable lessons, regardless of the outcome. "Sports are a field where no one loses; every player learns something new," he remarked.

The championship, set to conclude on November 14, witnessed a grand opening with senior officials from the Delhi Police in attendance. Notable personalities like former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag and renowned hockey player Rani Rampal were present as Guests of Honour.

The LG also took a salute from the marching contingents, while Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora extended a warm welcome to Saxena. The event features a robust participation with 1,123 police personnel from 39 teams representing 25 states, four Union Territories, and the Central Armed Police Forces. These athletes will compete in 45 athletic events at the JLN Stadium, alongside seven unique cycling events scheduled at Rohini, Delhi.

The championship not only showcases athletic prowess but also underscores the spirit of sportsmanship and learning that Saxena emphasized in his speech.
