Delhi LG Approves Promotions for 295 Chief Medical Officers, Bringing End to Long-Standing Waiting Period
New Delhi: In a move hailed as a significant step towards addressing long-standing concerns of Delhi's government employees, Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena on Wednesday approved the promotions of 295 Chief Medical Officers (CMOs) working in Delhi government hospitals.
According to Raj Niwas officials, these promotions have been implemented under the Delhi Health Service (Allopathy) Rules, 2009. The move is expected to bring timely promotions, career progression, and better working conditions to these medical officers.
However, the promotion of the Medical Superintendent of Maharishi Valmiki Hospital has been withheld due to a sexual harassment case filed against him by a woman doctor. The LG's office confirmed that one case among 302 CMOs considered for promotion was kept in abeyance pending the outcome of a vigilance inquiry. Six others were deemed unfit for promotion.
In a statement, Raj Niwas officials said this step is part of Saxena's continued efforts to ensure timely promotions, career growth, and improved service conditions for government employees. The development comes as part of efforts to address long-standing issues faced by government employees in the medical sector.
With this move, hundreds of Chief Medical Officers working in Delhi government hospitals are finally set to experience timely promotions, which is expected to boost morale and efficiency among medical staff across the city's healthcare institutions.
