Delhi Government Approves Recruitment of 1,463 Healthcare Workers

The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, V K Saxena, has approved the recruitment of 1,463 healthcare workers, including 701 nurses and 762 paramedical staff, a statement from the Lt Governor's office revealed on Monday.

According to the official notification, the recruitment process will be carried out by individual hospitals through an outsourced basis. This move is seen as an effort to strengthen the city's healthcare infrastructure in light of growing population demands.

The decision comes after recommendations made by the Dr SK Sarin Committee, which was formed by the Delhi High Court citing inadequacy of the health infrastructure and availability of hospital beds. The committee had directed the government to submit a status report on its plan to ensure the medical infrastructure keeps pace with the city's burgeoning population.

With this new recruitments, hopes are being pinned that the healthcare sector will be able to alleviate some of the pressure faced by hospitals in Delhi, particularly amid concerns over availability of beds and medical staff.
