Delhi CM Urges Women to Prioritize Health and Well-being on Mother's Day

In an impassioned plea, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized the critical role of women in shaping India's future and called for greater awareness around the health challenges they face, particularly obesity. The call came during the inaugural function of the National Obesity Conference held on Sunday as part of Mother's Day celebrations.
Speaking to over 1,000 guests at the event, which also saw the felicitation of 400 women doctors for their contributions to healthcare, Gupta stressed that neglecting self-care is a significant contributor to obesity among women. "The mother in our household takes care of everyone," she noted," but often overlooks her own health."
Gupta pointed out the irony that households are well-fed while women frequently skip meals or prioritize others' needs over their own. She warned that neglecting one's own health puts the entire family at risk, adding, "There is no time for self-care in a woman's life — they are constantly busy caring for families."
Recognizing the urgent need to address obesity, Gupta announced that the government plans to set up more open-air gyms in public parks. "Our vision is a healthy India," she stated, stressing that by targeting families' overall wellness, we can prevent a national health crisis.
Gupta highlighted the trust society places in caregivers — mothers and doctors — citing their dual impact: providing life and saving it. Extending her wishes on Mother's Day, she asked guests to dedicate every part of their lives and achievements to respectful treatment of mothers, language, and the planet, emphasizing that "which day is without a mother?"
The conference aims to promote awareness about obesity and other health challenges faced by women.
