Delhi Approves Recruitments of 1463 Healthcare Professionals Amid Shortage in Public Healthcare Infrastructure
New Delhi: In an effort to tackle the shortage of healthcare professionals and improve Delhi's public healthcare infrastructure, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has approved the recruitment of 1463 healthcare workers, including 701 nurses and 762 paramedical staff, on an outsourced basis.
According to a press statement, this move is aimed at addressing the pressing concern of inadequate health infrastructure and hospital bed availability in the city, which was highlighted by the High Court of Delhi earlier this year. The court had directed the Delhi government to file a status report on how it plans to enhance the medical infrastructure to match the increasing population.
The recruitment drive was carried out through public sector undertakings (PSUs) such as ICSIL, NICSI, BECIL, HLL, etc., in collaboration with individual hospitals. Over 40 PSUs participated, allocating jobs based on direct recruitments and relaxation of Recruitment Rules to facilitate swift hiring.
This initiative came after the recommendations made by the Dr SK Sarin Committee, set up by the court following its observations on healthcare earlier this week. The committee identified a severe shortage of nursing and paramedical staff as a crucial bottleneck in providing quality healthcare services in Delhi's hospitals.
Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena said that these moves are aimed at strengthening the public healthcare system to ensure better health outcomes for residents. "We recognize that investing in robust infrastructure is not only essential but necessary to address years of neglect in our public hospitals," he stated.
This move marks a significant step towards providing improved healthcare services in Delhi, particularly in light of the ever-growing city's population and increasing demand for medical facilities. The Lieutenate hopes this will lead to better quality care, enhanced patient outcomes and provide an impetus towards building capacity in the sector.
This initiative is seen as a milestone move from the administration regarding improving public health infrastructure which was also emphasized by the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi.
