De Niro Slams Trump at Cannes Film Festival 2025

Legendary actor Robert De Niro once again made headlines at the recent 78th Annual Cannes Film Festival, where he received an honorary Palme d'Or for his lifetime achievement.

The 'Goodfellas' star appeared at the festival's opening ceremony alongside his girlfriend Tiffany Chen, looking dashing in a black tuxedo and bowtie. Chen stunned on the red carpet in a black gown with shimmery details.

De Niro also had a rare audience moment, slamming US President Donald Trump during an award ceremony at the Cannes Film Festival 2025. In a scathing address, De Niro stated that "Art is the truth. Art embraces diversity... And that's why art is a threat to the autocrats and the fascists of the world."

Labelling Trump as "America's philistine president", De Niro voiced his discontent over the proposed 100% tariffs on movies made outside the United States. "He (Trump) has cut funding and support to the arts, humanities, and education... You can't put a price on connectivity," he added.

The Cannes Film Festival 2025 will run till May 24, featuring top talent from the world of cinema. Meanwhile, De Niro won't be far away - the 'Intern' actor made his presence known at the festival's first day with his girlfriend in tow, further proving that the Hollywood icon still has a flair for drama and charm, regardless of age.
