New Delhi, Nov 25, 2024 (AFP): The highlyanticipated FIDE World Chess Championship, starting on November 25, will feature a thrilling match between India's Gukesh Dommaraju and China's Ding Liren.
Gukesh, just 18 years old, will challenge for the world championship title against Ding, the reigning champion who won last year with a marathon win over Russia's Ian Nepomniachtchi. The match marks the first time in 138 years that two Asian grandmasters will face off in the championship.
The championship promises to be an exciting event, with both players standing a chance of winning the coveted title. According to sources close to the tournament, D Gukesh is on the brink of making history as he looks to become the youngest chess World Champion of all time. The match is expected to be fiercely contested, given Ding's expertise and experience.
All 14 rounds of the championship will be played at the Equarius Hotel in Resorts World Sentosa, Singapore. Fans can watch the live streaming on FIDE's YouTube and Twitch channels, as well as Chess.com.
The total cash prize for the tournament stands at $2.5 million (Rs 20 crore), with every win earning the player Rs 1.67 crores. A tiebreak will see the winner take home Rs 10.97 crores, while the runner-up will receive 10.13 crores.
