Community-Based Health Initiative Hailed as Success as NUHM's MAS Training Concludes in Wokha

Wokha, May 11 (MExN): A two-day training programme under the Mahila Arogya Samiti (MAS) initiative of the National Urban Health Mission (NUHM) came to a close on Friday at the Conference Hall of the Chief Medical Officer's Office in Wokha.
The training, which aimed to equip community-based women's groups with skills and knowledge to promote health within their wards, supported health workers during outreach activities, and monitored beneficiaries, saw participation from 78 community members across Wokha town.
Dated May 8-9, the MAS training equips participants to play an active role in promoting health through grassroots advocacy. Resource persons including Echungbeni Tsanglao, Oponthung Kinghen, Viroko, Mhonlumi, Abemo, and Khomo led sessions across various topics.
District Community Mobilizer Echungbeni Tsanglao revealed that MAS groups fill the gap between communities and public health services by promoting health. Participants were also educated on important concepts including social determinants of health, community vulnerability, and integrated health planning.
Consultant at Wokha's Urban Primary Health Centre Oponthung Kinghen emphasized the value of participants' involvement in improving access to essential public healthcare services.
With the successful conclusion of the MAS training under NUHM, local communities stand a stronger chance of harnessing collaborative efforts between women groups and health workers to enhance community-based initiatives.
