In a grand celebration of its centennial year, the All India Jamiatul Quresh, an organisation of the Qureshis, traditionally meat traders, will felicitate several young officers who have brought immense pride to the community. Joining the list of centenary celebrants are Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, and Farakhanda Qureshi, who secured All India Rank 67 in the UPSC exams 2024.
As part of its 100th anniversary celebrations, the organisation will host a grand function to honour its achievers. The Jamiatul Quresh's National President Sirajuddin Qureshi stated that the young officers are "shining stars" who embody the spirit of the community and serve as exemplary figures for the next generation.
The All India Jamiatul Quresh, founded in 1924 by Bhaiyya Rasheeduddin Ahmed Qreshi, has been at the forefront of representing the interests of the Qureshis throughout its existence. The organisation has a rich history, having started in the aftermath of the British colonial era, when Muslims were subjected to oppression and needed anorganisation that could unite and lead them.
Today, the Qureshis are no longer confined to traditional meat trade; they have made a mark in various fields including armed forces, bureaucracy, professions, education, fruits business, construction, banking, medicine, engineering, and more. The organisation's efforts to educate its members began over two decades ago and have been expediting in recent years due to increasing incidents of cow vigilantism and mob lynching.
Jamiatul Quresh's National President Sirajuddin Qureshi stated that the new generation of Qureshis has awoken to the importance of education and training, which will empower them to break free from traditional trade. The organisation plans to honour its centenary celebrants publicly as part of its celebrations to inspire young generations to follow in their footsteps.
The Jamiatul Quresh's Mumbai unit has also taken initiatives in various fields including education, medical, preparation of documents and govt schemes, and formed four sub-committees to achieve this. The organisation aims to preserve the rich culture and heritage of the Qureshis while fostering growth and progress among its members.
As the country celebrates the centenary year of the All India Jamiatul Quresh, Colonel Sofiya Qureshi's commendable career in the armed forces has caught attention, showcasing the organisation's motto that its members can fly fighter jets and occupy leading positions in bureaucracy and other professions.
