Coimbatore Hosts Second 'A Step Towards Healthy Lungs Walkathon'
In a bid to raise awareness about chronic respiratory conditions, the National Conference of Pulmonary Diseases (NAPCON) 2024 teamed up with Lupin Limited to host the second edition of "A Step Towards Healthy Lungs Walkathon" at the Racecourse in Coimbatore on Wednesday. The event featured two routes - a 2.5 km and a 5 km stretch - which drew a large participation from members of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Rotary Club, and the local community.
As part of the event, participants received their certificates of completion at the end of the walkathon. The organizing chairman of NAPCON 2024, Dr Mohan Kumar T, said that the event aimed to educate people about chronic respiratory conditions like Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and the importance of physical activity in managing these conditions.
"The role of pollution in respiratory diseases cannot be overstated," Dr T added. "This walkathon highlights the need for cleaner air and better health practices that can help mitigate the effects of pollution on our lungs."
Organizing secretary of NAPCON 2024, Dr Karthikeyan R, also emphasized the importance of reducing pollution to prevent respiratory diseases. "By taking simple steps like wearing masks in polluted areas or reducing our carbon footprint, we can make a significant difference in maintaining good lung health," he said.
Lupin Limited's senior vice president for sales and marketing, Hirak Bose, supported the event by saying that the walkathon is part of their efforts to promote lung health and encourage an active lifestyle. "We are happy to collaborate with NAPCON on this initiative," he added. "It's a great way to raise awareness about respiratory diseases and the importance of maintaining healthy lungs."
