Citizens Flock to Health Insurance as India Prepares for Potential New Wave of COVID-19 Cases

Kerala Leads the Charge as Nationwide COVID-Related Searches Surge by 153% in May 2025, Justdial Data Reveals

Mumbai (Alarian News Bureau): As the number of active COVID-19 cases continues to jump across the country, Indians are growing increasingly concerned about their healthcare expenses and turning to digital platforms for support. According to fresh data from Justdial, insurance-related queries jumped an astonishing 77% nationwide in May 2025 compared to April.

The latest surge in health insurance searches coincides with a recent spike in active COVID-19 cases, which have now crossed 7,000, as per the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. Kerala, often known for its high population density, has recorded the highest spike in insurance-related searches at an impressive 84%. The southern state's private testing centre searches also saw a massive eightfold increase compared to the preceding month.

Other states followed suit, with Mumbai recording a 26% surge and Tamil Nadu experiencing a 30% increase. Delhi urban residents showed particular concern, with insurance queries growing by 30%.

This marked increase in health insurance interest is part of a broader surge in COVID-related searches on Justdial. The nationwide increase in such searches stands at an incredible 153%, indicating widespread anxiety among citizens.

The growth of testing centers—both government and private—has also seen remarkable jumps, with government test center searches rising eightfold across India. Kerala led overall COVID-related search activity by a threefold increase over April and saw a massive 18 times increase in private testing centre searches.

India's Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) vaccination centers have also seen a significant spike with vaccinations being tripled, signifying renewed interest among residents towards preventive measures.

Justdial’s latest findings indicate that Indians are growing increasingly reliant on digital platforms to address health-related concerns. Insurers and healthcare providers will likely see increased demand for COVID-specific offerings as citizens seek ways to proactively prepare themselves for potential health risks.
