Chouhan Urges People of Chhattisgarh to Support 'One Nation, One Election'

Nagpur (Madhya Pradesh): Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has urged the people of Chhattisgarh to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of "one nation, one election", saying that frequent polls hinder the country's progress.

Chouhan made this remark at a function of the state government 'Mor Awas Mor Adhikar' in Nagpura village, where houses were being allocated under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Addressing the gathering, he pointed out that all development works come to a halt when the model code of conduct comes into force for elections.

"All development works stagnate due to elections, as politicians are preoccupied with poll work instead of taking long-term decisions that benefit the people," Chouhan stated. He emphasized that simultaneous Lok Sabha and assembly elections should be held every five years so that governments can serve people for four-and-a-half years without interruptions.

Chouhan also accused the previous Congress government in Chhattisgarh of snatching houses meant for poor people under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, citing this as a major failure. He stated that Modi ji's guarantee is essential to fulfill promises made during the previous assembly elections.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai also attended the program, and the allocation of 18 lakh houses under the scheme was mentioned.
