ChatGPT Refuses to Say British Adventurer's Name

A bizarre issue has been reported with Microsoft-backed AI startup OpenAI's chatbot, ChatGPT, where it is unable to pronounce or take the name "David Mayer." Despite multiple attempts and various prompts, users have failed to elicit a response from the chatbot.

According to Justine Moore, who first raised the issue on her X account, ChatGPT consistently responds with "I'm unable to produce a response" when asked to say the name. Users have attempted numerous approaches, including changing personalization settings and using puzzles, but none have succeeded in getting the chatbot to speak the name.

Moore shared screenshots of her interactions with ChatGPT, showcasing the failures. Reddit users also reported similar struggles, receiving responses such as "I'm unable to generate a response" when attempting to prompt ChatGPT with the name.

Some users attempted to bypass the issue by accessing ChatGPT's API and were met with success, but others were warned that their efforts might be considered "illegal and potentially violating usage policy."

However, a user who succeeded in making ChatGPT say the name shared a screenshot, revealing how they managed to overcome the barrier. ChatGPT eventually responded when asked what its name was, stating simply "David Mayer".

The strange issue remains unexplained, leaving users puzzled about why ChatGPT has failed to recognize or process the name "David Mayer."
