Chaos all around as Mumbai faces wettest May day in 107 years; BMC into action after mid-day reports and more

Mumbai witnessed unprecedented rains on Monday, with the southwest monsoon arriving 16 days early, leaving a trail of destruction and disruption in its wake. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had upgraded its warning to a red alert, signaling more intense rain was on the way.
The city's wettest May day in 107 years has brought traffic to a standstill, with over 295 mm of rainfall recorded at Colaba, according to official data. People have been wading through knee-deep waterlogged roads, as seen in Hindmata, while many have been forced to abandon their daily activities due to the flooding.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has finally taken action, completing unfinished cement concrete roadwork at Andheri and other locations that had gone unnoticed. However, despite this progress, several city roads remain in a limbo state, leaving commuters frustrated.
Reports from various parts of the city suggest that residents are being warned to be cautious due to falling branches, waterlogging, and landslides, which could pose a significant threat to life and property.
In related news, markets tumbled in early trade on Tuesday, after two days of rally was dragged down by IT stocks and weak Asian market trends. The 30-share BSE benchmark gauge Sensex dropped 460.38 points to 81,716.07 in early trade, while the NSE Nifty declined 162.05 points to 24,839.10.
