BRS Leader Slams Karnataka Government Over Miss World Contestants' Foot Washing Incident, Calls it a Grave Insult to Women's Dignity

Hyderabad: Former MLA of Telangana and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader P. Sabitha Indra Reddy on Tuesday (May 14, 2024), lambasted the Congress government in Karnataka for allowing women from the state to wash the feet of Miss World contestants, calling it a despicable act that insults the dignity of women.

Indra Reddy expressed her shock and outrage over the incident and urged the Chief Minister to apologize on behalf of the entire women community. "This is a land where brave women like Rani Rudramadevi and Sammakka-Saralamma were born. What happened is not just shameful, it's despicable," she said.

The BJP leader questioned the government's commitment to women's empowerment by sending such regressive signals. "The same government that promises to make crores of women millionaires is now reducing women to perform foot-washing rituals for foreign guests," she stated.

Pointing out the stark contrast between rural and urban realities, Sabitha Indra Reddy highlighted the fact that while women from rural areas walk miles to fetch water, such acts are staged by the government. She warned that history never pardons those who humiliate women and warned that the current Congress government would face similar consequences.

Meanwhile, fellow politician and BRS working president KT Rama Rao has described the Congress Chief Minister as "officially losing his mind" after expressing displeasure over the incident on X.
