BREAKING: Cavaliers Partner with America's VetDogs to Raise First-Ever NBA Team Service Dog in Training, Reggie

Smithtown, NY - January 31, 2025 - The Cleveland Cavaliers are proud to announce their partnership with America's VetDogs, the renowned nonprofit organization dedicated to providing highly trained service dogs to U.S. veterans and first responders with disabilities.

Under this groundbreaking initiative, Reggie, an 11-week-old male yellow Labrador Retriever, will be raised by the Cavs and Columbus-based Rock Entertainment Group franchise, the Cleveland Monsters of the American Hockey League, over the next 14 to 18 months. The team's commitment to supporting America's heroes aligns perfectly with America's VetDogs' mission, and the partnership offers a unique and enriching environment for Reggie to grow and thrive.

Once his training is complete, Reggie will embark on an epic journey as a U.S. veteran or first responder service dog, providing life-changing support and companionship to those who have served our country. America's VetDogs' assistance dog programs provide enhanced mobility and renewed independence to veterans, active-duty service members, and first responders with disabilities.

"We're honored to partner with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Rock Entertainment Group on Reggie's journey," said John Miller, President & CEO of America's VetDogs. "Their commitment to supporting our nation's heroes is essential to our mission, and we look forward to creating a confident and calm future service dog."

The partnership marks a significant milestone for the Cavs, as they become the first NBA team to raise a service dog through America's VetDogs' Puppy with a Purpose initiative. By helping offset the costs associated with breeding, raising, training, and placing each assistance dog, the Cavs demonstrate their commitment to supporting those who have served our communities and country.

Reggie will make his Cavs debut on Sunday, February 2, 2025, when the team hosts the Dallas Mavericks at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. Fans can follow Reggie's journey on Instagram @cavscare_ for updates on his training and local appearances.

The partnership highlights the growing importance of mental health support and companionship for service members and veterans struggling with PTSD and other disabilities. America's VetDogs, in collaboration with the Cavs, aims to provide a network of caring individuals and organizations that can offer vital assistance services beyond military-specific benefits.
