Bollywood Singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya Hit by Backlash as He Faces Legal Notice Over Gandhi Remark
Mumbai, Dec (ANI): Bollywood singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya is in trouble after he sparked a controversy with his comments on late music composer RD Burman and Mahatma Gandhi. A Pune-based lawyer has sent him a legal notice, demanding an apology over his remarks, which are alleged to have insulted the revered leader's image.
The notices were sent by Asim Saorde, representing singer Manish Deshpande, who had earlier filed a complaint against Bhattacharya under sections 353 (public mischief) and Section 356 (defamation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. If Bhattacharya fails to apologize, he may face criminal prosecution.
In his remarks last month, Bhattacharya claimed that RD Burman was bigger than Mahatma Gandhi, stating "Pancham Da (RD Burman) was bigger than Mahatma Gandhi". He also said that while Gandhi is considered the father of Pakistan, he should be referred to as the father of India, not because of any inherent relationship but because Pakistan had extricated itself from Indian soil.
