BJP Demands Urgent Relief Measures For Jammu's Struggling Industrial Sector

SRINAGAR, May 17: A senior BJP spokesperson for Jammu and Kashmir UT, Gaurav Gupta, today met with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at Raj Bhawan in Srinagar, where he submitted a detailed memorandum of demands addressing the crippling industrial crisis facing the region.

The BJP spokesperson expressed grave concern over the deteriorating condition of Jammu's business ecosystem, citing severe manpower shortages, disrupted supply chains, and plummeting market demand. The current situation has led to numerous industrial units and trading establishments on the brink of closure.

One of the key demands listed in the memorandum is the immediate release of nearly Rs 20 crore in pending GST refunds currently stuck with the Gandhi Nagar Treasury. Gupta emphasized that this disbursement is essential to inject liquidity into the struggling small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and prevent their financial collapse.

He also requested facilitation of interest subvention and Working Capital Demand Loans (WCDL) through J&K Bank, modeled on COVID-era relief measures, to support the welfare of the business community. These loans were crucial for industrialists to manage their liabilities and revive operations.

Gupta described the business community as the backbone of Jammu's economy, providing direct and indirect employment to thousands. He expressed confidence that under LG Sinha's visionary leadership, swift action would be taken to stabilize and rejuvenate the industrial sector.

Furthermore, Gupta raised concerns over the growing sense of panic among border residents due to unprovoked Pakistani shelling, which has disrupted normal life in several villages. He urged LG Sinha to initiate immediate relief measures, including financial assistance for affected border residents, business community members, and hoteliers grappling with uncertainty following the recent Indo-Pak conflict.

LG Sinha reassured Gaurav Gupta that his concerns would be examined and necessary action taken. The meeting highlights the BJP's commitment to addressing the pressing issues facing Jammu's struggling industrial sector.
