Bishnoi Leader Lawrence Bisht's 'Jeev Jantu Raksha Board' Opens New Horizons as Gangster Saga Resurfaces Across Globe

A bizarre saga of gangsters and animal protection has unfolded across the globe, tracing its roots to a small village in Rajasthan. Lawrence Bishnoi, a notorious Indian gangster currently serving a life sentence, claims to have formed an "Animal Welfare Board" - dubbed "Jeev Jantu Raksha Board" - which he presides over.
The controversy began 25 years ago when Bollywood star Salman Khan allegedly poached two sacred blackbucks at Kankani village in Rajasthan. The incident led to widespread protests and eventually earned the actor a suspended sentence after an acquittal by the Supreme Court. However, tensions between Khan and Lawrence Bishnoi's supporters - who claim he is innocent - persist.
Khan, however, continues to deny any wrongdoing, stating that the allegations are part of a "conspiracy". In May 2000, Salman was acquitted due to lack of evidence and insufficient security cameras that could capture footage of the alleged crime. Despite the court's decision, Khan has never expressed remorse for his actions.
Today, hundreds of tourists visit the shrine, where an iron frame-and-cement blackbuck statue, topped with two fake horns from a dead animal, stands as a grim reminder of the case. The monument remains in Kankani village, which appears to be a testament to Lawrence Bishnoi's claim that he formed the board as a way to promote animal welfare.
Lawrence Bisht is now claiming his Animal Welfare Board has been working for years and they have "solved many problems concerning animals" across India. However, not everyone trusts his statement of a Jeev Jantu Raksha Board being a genuine initiative - as alleged by Lawrence in the news release last month.
This enigma around Lawrence Bisht has opened various pathways to further controversy surrounding the gang war initiated on Indian streets and even beyond, bringing global attention - much like Salman Khan's infamous 'behen' case with Pakistani cricketer Imran Khan's cousin.
