Biden Administration Accused of Pushing World War Three with Ukraine Strikes
By Alayaran News Desk
MOSCOW - Russian lawmaker Maria Butina on Monday accused the administration of US President Joe Biden of risking World War Three by allowing Ukraine to use US-made weapons to strike deep into Russia.
Butina, who spent 15 months in US prison for acting as an unregistered Russian agent, expressed concerns that Biden's administration is "trying to escalate the situation to the maximum" while it still has power and is in office. She warned that this could lead to a nuclear response from Russia if Moscow comes under direct attack.
In a statement to Reuters, Butina said: "These guys, Biden's administration, [is] trying to escalate the situation to the maximum while they still have power and are still in office... They are seriously risking the start of World War Three which is not in anybody's interest."
The accusation comes as reports suggest that Biden's administration has made a decision to allow Ukraine to use US-made weapons to strike deep into Russia. Kremlin officials have yet to comment on the matter, but Russian lawmakers have vowed to respond "immediately" if Ukrainian strikes with US ATACMS tactical missiles are authorized.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said earlier this year that Western approval for such a step would mean "the direct involvement of NATO countries, the United States and European countries in the war in Ukraine". He also updated Russia's nuclear doctrine to say that if Moscow comes under direct attack from the West, it may consider a nuclear response.
Andrei Klishas, a senior member of the Federation Council, warned that the West is "deciding on such a level of escalation that it could end with the Ukrainian statehood in complete ruins by morning".
Vladimir Dzhabarov, first deputy head of the Russian upper house's international affairs committee, also expressed concern, saying: "This is a very big step towards the start of World War Three."
The decision has sparked tension between Russia and the West, with Moscow warning that it will respond swiftly if Ukraine targets Russian regions with US missiles.
It remains to be seen how Biden's administration will respond to the criticism from Russia. The situation in Ukraine remains volatile, and analysts say that any escalation could have catastrophic consequences for global security.
