Bengaluru Police Unveils Innovative Digital Tracking System to Combat Irregularities in Seized Items

In a bid to enhance safety, accountability, and transparency in police operations, the Bengaluru City Police has launched an innovative digital tracking system for seized items, including jewellery, cash, and other valuables. The initiative aims to eliminate discrepancies in inventory management and ensure that seized goods are accounted for at all times.

According to City Police Commissioner B Dayananda, the decision was driven by the need to address irregularities in handling of seized items, particularly after instances where officers left without accounting for items under their custody. "We have been observing irregularities in handling of seized items and decided to digitise our police station operations to improve accountability," he said.

The new system uses unique QR codes attached to each seized item, which contain details of the investigating officer, seizure date, and case information. This will enable senior officers to periodically audit the status of these items, ensuring seamless tracking and accountability. The system also aids in monitoring case progress in court and protecting seized items until cases reach their logical conclusion.

"In addition, we are introducing body-worn cameras for officers on public duty and biometric devices for fingerprint collection during investigations," said an official. "These technological upgrades reflect our commitment to transparency and efficiency in handling materials, ensuring justice is served without compromise."

The innovative system also includes a special software that documents details of habitual offenders, including their addresses, pending cases, and current activities, allowing officers to closely monitor their movements.

The police are currently undergoing training to adapt to this new digital system. The move is expected to significantly improve the management of seized materials and reduce irregularities in police operations. With this initiative, the Bengaluru City Police is taking a significant step towards ensuring transparency and accountability in its daily operations.
