Bengali National Arrested for Breaking into Saif Ali Khan's House, Stabbing him and Making Away with Nothing
Mumbai: A 30-year-old Bangladeshi national, Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, has been arrested on charges of stabbing actor Saif Ali Khan after breaking into his house, the police revealed today.
Preliminary investigations by the Mumbai police have revealed that before committing the crime, Shehzad had scouted out residences of several Bollywood celebrities, including Saif Ali Khan and Shah Rukh Khan.
Shehzad, who was posing as an alias "Bijoy Das," used a ladder to assess entry points to target high-profile houses. However, he abandoned plans to target Mannat due to its heightened security measures. On January 15, Shehzad carried out a detailed recce of Saif Ali Khan's house and returned later that night to attempt the break-in.
After breaching into the building at 1:37 am on January 16, Shehzad panicked and attacked Saif Ali Khan. Fleeing empty-handed, he left behind no loot or valuables, leaving the police baffled by the motive behind the robbery.
According to sources, Shehzad was a desperate man who had recently lost his job in Bangladesh due to his unpaid debts. Seeking help from people to return to Bangladesh but unable to afford it, he hatched a plan for this robbery.
In an unusual turn of events, police revealed that Shehzad kept track of the investigation and watched through news channels as suspects were identified on screen. He saved screenshots from his phone, but these images were later recovered by authorities after initial tips led them to two men with resemblance like Shehzad.
The police first detained these suspects but couldn't find any substantial link to the crime till Sunday morning when they managed to finally apprehend Shehzad who had been hiding in a labour camp some 35 kilometers from Saif Ali Khan's Bungalow. Using bushes to evade capture for about seven hours, authorities caught him and proved that he didn't carry valid documents.
According to DCP Dixit Gedam "Shehzad admitted the crime during interrogation". As part of further investigation into the matter which is on-going, Shariful remains in police custody till January 22nd.
