Bangladesh Concribes 88 Attacks of Violence after Sheikh Hasina's Ouster as Minorities Targeted Primarily
Dhaka, Bangladesh: December 11, 2024 - In the wake of Vice President Sheikh Hasina's ouster as Prime Minister of Bangladesh, reports have poured in of a surge in attacks on minority groups, with Hindu communities bearing the brunt. Authorities in Bangladesh have confirmed 88 incidents of such assaults.
According to sources within the government and human rights agencies, the violence is believed to be directed at Bangladeshi Hindus primarily due to their perceived opposition to Sheikh Hasina's leadership amid allegations of constitutional abuses.
"We are witnessing an alarming escalation of attacks against minority communities in the past 48 hours," a spokesperson from Bangladesh Human Rights Commission revealed to news channels. "The government must take immediate action to guarantee law and order and security for its citizens under all circumstances."
Sheikh Hasina, who lost power after facing mounting allegations of unconstitutional actions in office, has been met with widespread criticism from regional powers such as India but significant resistance at home.
