Bangladesh Army Refutes Speculations of Gaps with Government, Vows to Safeguard Sovereignty

Dhaka, May 26, 2025 - In a press conference held at the Army Headquarters today, Brigadier General M Nazim-ud-Daula, Director of Military Operations, refuted speculations of gaps between the government and the Bangladesh Army, saying that the military was working in tandem with the government.
"We are working together to help each other. There is no scope to misinterpret it," the brigadier said, emphasizing that the army has always been committed to safeguarding the country's sovereignty and national interests.
The Director of Military Operations also commented on the corridor controversy, stating that for the army, national interest comes first. "There will be no compromise when it comes to the country's independence, security, and sovereignty," he said.
Meanwhile, Colonel M Shafiqul Islam, Staff Officer of the same directorate, outlined the army's activities over the past 40 days. He revealed that the military had seized 241 illegally possessed arms and 709 ammunitions, and apprehended 1969 crime suspects during this period.
Since the nationwide anti-crime crackdown started in August last year, the army has seized a total of 9611 illegal arms, 285761 ammunitions, and arrested 14266 crime suspects. The colonel reiterated that the army will take stringent action against mob violence and those who disrupt social security.
The overall law and order situation either remained stable or improved in some areas compared to the past, according to Colonel Islam. "Those involved in hampering the law and order will be dealt with iron hands. Bangladesh Army has been relentlessly working to defend the country's independence and sovereignty," he said.
The army personnel have also been engaged in upholding communal harmony and maintaining security at diplomatic enclaves. Ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, they will enforce a vigil against extortion in cattle markets alongside their ongoing policing activities.
Additionally, troops will work for traffic management to ease homebound passengers' safe journey. The Bangladesh Army is committed to ensuring the safety and security of citizens, while upholding the country's national interests and sovereignty.
