Australian Fast Bowler Mitchell Johnson Expresses Disappointment with Team's Slogging Response
Perth, Australia - Former Australian fast bowler Mitchell Johnson has expressed his disappointment with the country's bowling team for being overly sensitive to aggressive sledging by Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal during the ongoing Perth Test.
Johnson feels that the Australian team failed to show enough resilience and were intimidated by a 22-year-old player. "As an outsider watching on, I want to see some fight from this Australian side," he wrote in his column for The West Australian. "Not a debutant and a young opening batter from India getting in the faces of our team on our turf and sledging Mitchell Starc saying he's bowling too slow."
The tension escalated during the match as Jaiswal, playing with confidence and audacity, taunted Australian bowler Mitchell Starc, questioning his pace. The verbal exchange between the two players seemed to unsettle the Australian bowlers, who failed to mount an effective reply in their attempt to restrict India's second-innings total.
Despite taking two wickets in India's low first-innings score of 150, Starc was unable to make a significant impact on the match, as the Indian batsmen dominated the Australian bowlers. Jaiswal's aggressive batting display and ability to hit boundaries at will overwhelmed the opposition.
Johnson warned that if the Australians fail to dominate the second Test in Adelaide, starting from December 6, leveling the series could become a challenging task. "The Border-Gavaskar series is far from over and it's certainly not a time to panic," he cautioned. "But Australia will need to put pressure on India early when the match gets underway at Adelaide Oval on Friday and keep it up or they could find the 1-0 deficit it hard to come back from."
