AR Rahman Celebrates 58th Birthday Amidst Personal Loss

Renowned Indian music composer and singer-songwriter A.R. Rahman is turning 58 today, marking another milestone in his illustrious career as one of the most celebrated musicians in the world. Born Dileep Kumar to a Hindu family, Rahman converted to Islam at the age of 23 under the guidance of spiritual guru Qadri Islam, leaving an indelible mark on India's music scene.

Rahman achieved history-making status when he became the first Asian artist to win two Oscars in a single year for his iconic song "Jai Ho" from the movie Slumdog Millionaire. Apart from these accolades, he has also won several National Awards, Grammy Awards, and more, showcasing his versatility and mastery over various musical genres.

Before venturing into the entertainment industry, Rahman caught eyes as a child prodigy who could play four keyboards simultaneously on Doordarshan's "Wonder Balloon." His unique talent earned him recognition in the field.

According to reports, the Airtel signature tune composed by Rahman has become one of the most downloaded songs due to its catchy melody. In his early days, it was none other than filmmaker Mani Ratnam who first discovered Rahman and roped him in for his 1992 blockbuster Roja - a move that earned him ₹25,000.

A.R. Rahman's Oscar-winning song "Jai Ho" was initially composed as an alternate track for Yuvvraaj starring Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, but it eventually made its way into Slumdog Millionaire. On top of his notable achievements in Bollywood, Rahman has also ventured into Hollywood by scoring music for films like 127 Hours and Lord Of War.

In recent news, Rahman celebrated one decade of marriage to Saira Banu but announced their separation on December 26. The celebrity couple penned a heartfelt note announcing the end of their relationship, sharing gratitude with friends who offered support during this "fragile chapter."
