ANWAR IBRAHIM'S CALL FOR MORAL EMPOWERMENT BEFORE MORGUE FATE AWAITS MALAYSIA
Kuala Lumpur, 31 July - Malaysia is rapidly spiraling into a moral crisis, and the country's leaders have been urged to seize action before it's too late.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, in a recent speech, highlighted the importance of dialogues between people of different faiths and cultures to build bridges across societal divides. The call for greater unity and cooperation came as Malaysia struggles with a deepening web of dishonesty that threatens its very existence.
Anwar noted the valuable lessons Confucius' teachings can offer on family relationships, while Islam provides insight into the need for a unified citizenry to shape a new era of global ethical governance. By adopting these principles, Anwar argues that Malaysia can steer away from its current fate and towards one where honesty leads to prosperity.
Noting recent trends in public and private sectors reveal widespread dishonesty. The author cites examples such as delayed infrastructure projects, inadequate cleaning services, or neglect of public parks leading to calls for greater civic responsibility.
However, more particularly, is the alarming rate at which older citizens are falling prey to complex online scams, where fraudsters use senior citizens' phone, computer and banking credentials without permission.
The 95-year-old retired civil servant lost RM18,000. His passing brought attention to another network that facilitates scams - banks holding compromised customer accounts allowing scammers transfer money using the victim's name. The government is required by law to monitor these networks regularly as they pose a significant threat to individual and collective safety.
