Andhra Pradesh Unanimously Passes Resolution for High Court Bench at Kurnool
Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh: The Andhra Pradesh State Assembly has passed a resolution unanimously urging the Central Government to set up a High Court Bench at Kurnool district. Minister for Law N.Md. Farooq tabled the resolution in the House yesterday.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu stated that his government is committed to developing Kurnool and has long promised to set up a High Court bench in the region. The resolution, which was passed late last night, will now be sent to the Central Government for its consent.
Naidu alleged that his government neglected the Rayalaseema region during the previous YSR Congress Party regime but assured the Assembly that efforts would be made to develop Kurnool fully.
MLAs from Kurnool and other parts of Rayalaseema hailed the passing of the resolution, saying it will finally meet their long-standing demand for a High Court bench in the region.
The state Cabinet had decided to set up a permanent High Court Bench at Kurnool on Tuesday. The Andhra Pradesh State Law Secretary also wrote a letter to the Registrar General of the Andhra Pradesh High Court requesting him to follow up with the Central Government regarding the establishment of a High Court bench in Kurnool.
This comes after protests by lawyers in Kurnool against proposed shifting of the Andhra Pradesh State Human Rights Commission and Lok Ayuktas to Amaravati. The government has assured that the institutions will continue to function from Kurnool.
The passing of this resolution marks the fulfillment of a long-standing demand of the people of Rayalaseema region, who have been waiting for years for a High Court bench in their region.
