Andhra Pradesh Assembles Unanimous Resolution for High Court Bench in Kurnool
Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh: In a significant move, the Andhra Pradesh Assembly unanimously passed a resolution urging the Centre to set up a High Court bench at Kurnool, on Thursday. Minister for Law N.M. Farooq tabled the resolution in the House, which was later sent to the Centre for its consent.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, addressing the House, announced that the state government is committed to developing its judicial infrastructure and assured that the High Court bench would be set up as early as possible. This move comes after long-standing demands from the people of Kurnool and surrounding regions.
The resolution was passed a day after the state Cabinet decided to establish a permanent court at Kurnool, which will serve as an alternative for the high court in the region. The decision aims to ease the burden on the existing court and provide better justice facilities to the residents of Rayalaseema.
CM Naidu also stressed that his government is committed to addressing the developmental needs of Kurnool, and the establishment of a High Court bench is just one step towards achieving this goal.
The CM assured the Assembly that the Andhra Pradesh State Human Rights Commission (APSHRC) and Lok Ayukta will continue to function from Kurnool, following protests by lawyers in Kurnool who were against shifting these institutions to Amaravati.
In a significant development, the state law secretary had written a letter to the registrar general of the High Court, requesting follow-up with the Government of India regarding establishing a High Court bench at Kurnool. The state cited examples of other states like Madras, Bombay, and Guwahati which have High Courts with branches in different locations.
The establishment of a High Court bench at Kurnool marks an optimistic beginning for the state's judicial system, as it looks to fulfill its commitment of providing better justice facilities to its citizens.
