Anand Mahindra's Billion-Dollar Business Empire in Limbo: Will His Daughters Take the Reins?

Mumbai, India - The lucrative business empire of Anand Mahindra, chairman of the Mahindra Group, is at a crossroads. After decades of guiding the company with a market value of Rs 1.9 lakh crore, speculation is rampant about who will take the reins next.

Mahindra's daughters, Divya and Aalika, respectively married to Mexican artist Dord Zapata and French national (name not disclosed), both reside abroad and are reportedly uninterested in pursuing a career in the family business. Their mother, Anuradha, is also out of the picture, with neither she nor any of her daughters holding leadership positions within the company.

"I've given my daughters complete freedom to make their own decisions," Mahindra revealed in an interview. "I never forced them to join the company; they've chosen to settle and pursue careers outside of the family business."

When questioned about his daughters' absence from the board meeting, Mahindra quipped that both Divya and Aalika are indeed part of the family, but their mother uses them for her own magazines. Despite this apparent attempt at humor, it leaves many wondering why the two women, who possess valuable skills in design and journalism, aren't involved with the iconic company.

Ananda Mahindra's wife, Anuradha, is also an accomplished executive in her own right. She co-founded Verve magazine and continues to serve as its editor under the creative direction of Divya, while Aalika handles editorial duties.

Divya holds a degree in designing and visual communication from New York University, which she pursued while freelancing in 2009 before securing her current role at Verve. Her personal life includes a marriage to Zapata, whom she wed while based in the United States.

Aalika, on the other hand, tied the knot with a French national, but information regarding her partner and their current whereabouts is scarce.

The void left by Anand Mahindra's possible transition of responsibility has raised several questions about who will lead the massive business entity forward. While there has been no official announcement as to his retirement plans or succession strategy, one thing is clear: whoever takes the helm will have enormous shoes to fill and high expectations to meet.
