Amul Announces ₹600 Crore Investment in New Dairy Plant in Kolkata

KOLKATA: The Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd (GCMMF), the renowned dairy company behind the popular Amul brand, has announced a significant investment of ₹600 crore in the construction of an integrated dairy plant in Kolkata. This state-of-the-art facility will not only house the world's largest curd production plant but also cater to the growing demand for traditional products like curd in the region.
TheManaging Director of GCMMF, Jayen Mehta, confirmed during the Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS), that the integrated dairy plant will feature a daily capacity of 10 lakh kilograms of curd production. The total milk processing capacity is set to reach 15 lakh litres per day, with an initial investment of ₹600 crore.
The new dairy plant will be located at the Sankrail Food Park in Howrah, close to Kolkata, and will be built in two phases by Kaira District Cooperative Milk Producers Union Ltd, based in Anand. The facility aims to meet the growing demand for curd and milk products, particularly in the eastern states of India.
Amul is already the leading fresh milk brand in Bengal, with daily sales surpassing 10 lakh litres of milk. The company boasts a robust milk procurement network across 14 districts in Bengal, with over 1.2 lakh women dairy producers associated with it.
The establishment of this new dairy plant will contribute to reinforcing the dairy cooperative movement in Bengal, aligning with the White Revolution 2.0 initiative launched by the Ministry of Cooperation, Government of India. This project is also expected to boost the growth of the dairy industry in the region.
In its most recent fiscal year, GCMMF's turnover grew by 8 per cent, reaching ₹59,445 crore. The company anticipates double-digit growth in revenue during the current fiscal, driven by strong demand for its products.
