Amazon Streamlines Health Business to Speed Innovation and Ease Patient Experience

Amazon is reorganizing its health business into six units in a bid to simplify its structure, improve innovation, and enhance the patient experience. According to CNBC, senior vice president Neil Lindsay announced the restructuring plan as part of Amazon's efforts to tackle issues such as a fragmented experience for patients and customers in healthcare.

The new divisions will be led by both longtime Amazon leaders and executives from One Medical, a primary care chain acquired by Amazon last year. The reorg does not involve significant layoffs, despite reports of key departures in 2025. Lindsay attributed these losses to the natural evolution of the business, stating that Amazon has "no shortage of depth of talent."

The six new divisions are:

  1. One Medical Clinical Care Delivery
  2. One Medical Clinical Operations and Performance
  3. AHS Strategic Growth and Network Development
  4. AHS Store, Tech, and Marketing
  5. AHS Compliance
  6. AHS Pharmacy Services

Amazon has expanded its healthcare offerings through partnerships with Teladoc, mental health providers, and the addition of virtual care services like Amazon One Medical Pay-per-visit telehealth. By integrating these services into its larger ecosystem, Amazon aims to redefine healthcare access and directly challenge Walmart's position in the industry.

The company also recently extended the Amazon One Medical service to include new health and beauty-related options through partnerships with providers and companies alike. This move aims to give customers a comprehensive and convenient one-stop-shop for their healthcare needs.

Amazon's efforts to transform its healthcare business build on its recent acquisitions and initiatives, including its expanded primary care services, digital health platforms, and partnerships in the cloud-based and media industries. As the company continues to strengthen its position in healthcare, it is challenging Walmart and other competitors for dominance in this increasingly critical space of daily living infrastructure.
