Amazon Launches Haul Section on App Amid Competition with Temu
In an effort to keep up with the rising competition in the e-commerce market, Amazon has launched a new section on its app called Haul, which sells ultra-cheap items shipped directly from China for under $20. The move is seen as a response to other budget-friendly e-commerce platforms like Temu and Shein.
However, reviewers have been left disappointed with the limited and unimpressive product selection in Haul, which appears to be a mere imitation of what can already be found on Amazon's regular site. Many products are indeed cheaper on Amazon's main platform, leaving customers wondering why they would choose shipping from an overseas warehouse over their usual two-day shipping options.
The Haul section features categories such as generic makeup sponges, phone cases, workout leggings, and cheap jewelry, similar to what has been available on Chinese e-commerce sites. While the prices are attractive at first glance, many items bear striking resemblance to products already sold by Amazon or its competitors. In a surprising twist, some of these household essentials can even be found from rival retailers like regular Amazon.
Amazon's latest attempt also includes an attempt to attract customers with trendy yet affordable clothing options, bearing similarities to what has been seen on Shein's platform.
Temu, which has gained significant popularity among young shoppers in recent months due to its low prices and often surprising availability of novelty items, is said to be the inspiration behind Haul. A representative from Amazon shared that they plan to expand the product offerings for the new section over coming weeks.
